Brookfield promotes Goodman to CFO
Brookfield Asset Management has promoted Nicholas Goodman to managing partner, CFO, succeeding Brian Lawson who is stepping down from the role.
Goodman is responsible for the firm’s global finance, treasury, risk management and technology functions.
He joined Brookfield in London in 2010 and has held various positions at the firm including most recently treasurer and CFO of Brookfield Renewable Partners. Prior to joining Brookfield, Goodman worked in the real estate division of Royal Bank of Scotland’s global banking & markets, and he was an analyst at Deutsche Bank.
Lawson will continue to serve as a director at Brookfield, providing guidance and advice on the company’s finance and risk management activities as a vice chair.
Brookfield has also appointed Oaktree Capital Group’s founder and co-chair Howard Marks to the firm’s board, replacing Robert Harding who is retiring from the role.
Marks made a name for himself in the industry having founded Oaktree in 1995. Prior to this, he led the groups at The TCW Groups which were responsible for investments in distressed debt, high yield bonds and convertible securities. Marks was also CIO for domestic fixed income at the firm.
In March 2019, Brookfield acquired a 61.2% stake in Oaktree in a deal worth $4.7bn, making the combined entity one of the largest asset managers in the world, with $475bn of AUM.
