In recent years, environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria have become a powerful signal of the changing sentiment from investors, who are interested in how their funds are invested, not just performance. The growth of allocations to such strategies has been substantial, with The Global Sustainable Investment Alliance estimating that global sustainable assets currently stand at $30tn – more than doubling since 2012.
