Symptomatic of a constrained fundraising environment, PE has been shedding its skin into hybrid funds to help loosen the purse strings from new sources of capital.

Hybrid funds are also said to provide slithers of flexibility and diversity within asset classes.

According to Citco’s recent report on the existence of these funds in private markets, 40% of funds launched in H1 2023 were hybrid, rising from an original figure of 20% in H1 2021.
