HarbourVest appoints head of fund accounting

HarbourVest has appointed Peter Mahoney as head of fund accounting and managing director.

Mahoney joins from asset manager Vanguard, where he served for 26 years in various accounting roles. Vanguard has been in a strategic partnership with HarbourVest since 2020.

Most recently, he held the position of principal and head of global fund accounting at Vanguard, during which he led a team of 200 professionals across five global entities. Prior to that, he was head of international fund services.

His experience at Vanguard provided him with knowledge in fund accounting across jurisdictions, streamlining team responsibilities, implementing new technologies to improve operational efficiency, and managing fund accounting and administrative functions for non-US entities.

In his new role, Mahoney will use his previous experience to help lead HarbourVest’s fund and investment accounting operations. He will also lead the firm’s valuation and audit committees.

The appointment follows HarbourVest’s recent hiring of Javier Rodriguez as head of client operations.
