by Krystal Scanlon 1 June 2022

Sustainable Development Capital (SDCL) has appointed Ben Story as group chief operating officer, based in London.

He takes over from Joseph Muthu, who has since taken on the role of group board director. Muthu is also on the investment committees for SDCL’s energy efficiency income trust (SEEIT) and its private fund GESF.

Story joins from Rolls-Royce, where he spent the last six years as director, strategy and marketing, as well as a member of the executive leadership team. In this role, he was responsible for strategy, M&A, corporate affairs, customer services and digitalisation. During his time at the firm, SDCL announced a partnership with Rolls-Royce (November 2021) to jointly offer energy-as-a-service solutions to help accelerate the takeup of more sustainable power. Prior to this he spent three years at Citi, where he was a managing director, head of UK investment banking & broking. Before this, he was MD, head of industrials EMEA & APAC at Deutsche Bank for seven years, having previously spent eight years at Morgan Stanley where he was head of transportation & business services EMEA & APAC.

Additionally, he is a board member of Transport for London and chair of its programmes & investment committee.

In his new role at SDCL, Story will help to ensure the firm offers green energy solutions to its global clients.

“Ben is a significant figure in sectors where we operate, having held key roles at Rolls-Royce and major financial institutions,” commented Jonathan Maxwell, CEO of SDCL. “His expertise, leadership and operational experience will be invaluable to SDCL as we continue to grow and achieve our ambition to be the leader in distributed energy and energy efficiency solutions globally.”

Established in 2007, SDCL is an investment firm focused on decentralised energy and energy efficiency solutions in the UK, Continental Europe, North America and Asia. Headquartered in London, the firm has additional offices in New York, Dublin, Hong Kong and Singapore.
