SET Ventures promotes firm’s first CFO
SET Ventures has promoted Leonie Mekel to be the firm’s first CFO, with the mandate to oversee all of its operations.
Mekel spent the last year at the firm as its director of finance and operations. She joined SET in 2016 as a manager of operations and compliance manager, a role she held for almost six years before her promotion to director of finance and operations.
In her new role, she will be additionally responsible for financial strategy, reporting and compliance.
According to SET, the firm’s growth during recent years has created the need for a separate role to oversee finance and operations, which was previously part of the remit of one of its founding partners.
Further, the company cited an increase in compliance requirements and reporting on sustainability and financial performance as drivers for the creation of the role.
“I’ve been with SET for more than six years now and it’s been impressive to see how our team and mission have developed over that timespan,” commented Mekel. “There’s a lot more to come and I’m greatly looking forward to the future.”
Additionally, the firm has welcomed Till Stenzel into the partnership. He joined in 2021 as a venture partner.
Wouter Jonk, founder and managing partner at SET, commented on the developments: “We are pleased to announce the promotions of Till and Leonie. Their accomplishments and dedication have been invaluable to the mission of SET over the past few years. Their expertise and leadership will help our continued success as we support innovative startups and accelerate the transition to a sustainable energy future.”
