The rise of the cross-border transaction

A notable observation in recent years has been private equity’s increasing appetite for cross-border investments, a trend that seems likely to continue as the world continues to recover from the social and economic impact of Covid-19. After the dramatic fall in investment activity during 2020, the first quarter of 2021 saw the highest volume of cross-border M&A deals for any first quarter since 2007, according to Bloomberg, with private equity-backed transactions comprising over one third of those deals.
