Why so serious?

by Contributor 16 September 2021

“Try smiling less, because people don’t know whether you’re serious or not,” I was told by a senior colleague during my days in private equity.

Whilst I approach life with a spring in my step and a smile on my face, my point is not whether smiling at work is always appropriate, rather, there is a widespread misconception that financial results can only be achieved at the expense of fun and enjoyment.
